True Single Payer vs True Free Market

Post by tuscaloosatanning on Fri Jun 29, 2012 11:41 am

Ok,
Focused question about how healthcare is administered....Leave
ObamaCare out for a moment... Which system would 1)be more efficient
and 2)ensure all people have access to reasonably affordable care?
Single Payer or Free Market. Understand we have never had anything
resembling a free market(insurance, Medicare/Caid, script plans) and the
federal government has never managed any sector this large and complex.
So which do you choose?

Topic moved to separate thread.. open for discussion.

As for a gut level reaction from me the true free market plan obviously trumps a red tape Juggernaut that would be single payer. Just curious...how free market are we talking? Selling organs to the highest bidder etc etc?

Two things:
1. Free Market.
2. Why are you sure that the Free Market would ensure that all people have access to reasonably affordable healthcare? That is a major assumption. By it's very definition, Free Market is going to provide a service at whatever the market will bear. This does not necessarily mean that it will have to be "affordable". I agree that it is the best hope and the only option that in the long run will not bankrupt our future, but that in no way means that it is a guarantee. If the only factor is making sure people have some type of health care, regardless of any other decision points, then the Single Payer system is better.
